Super Phoenix

Phoenix has gone over the top crazy with parties, celebrities, traffic and, oh, some sports, too, for over a week now and I was itching to be a part of it. I spent my lunch hour on Friday driving Shana and Scott to the Open where they scored tickets in the rain to the VIP Pepsi tent. Halfway through my movie on the couch night with Shawn, I got the "Are you drunky?" text from the kids, too cold and wet for the Bird's Nest, ready to get home and not an uber in sight. This morning Shawn and I hit the airports again for some Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous plane viewing. Scottsdale, Deer Valley and Glendale airports were all packed full of $40 million plus Gulfstream and Bombardiers and every other ritzy non-Southwest Airlines jet we've ever seen. I finally got in on some real action as Jo and I took the light rail downtown where it was transformed into party central - a Grand Canyon rock climbing wall, blocks and blocks of games and bars, excited people everywhere.  We took our clever VIP perch on a gorgeous night above the sea of football fans decked out in their team jerseys, dined on pizza and beer (from the barber shop selling Hefeweizen while a couple of men were actually getting a shave, reclining back, steaming towels on their faces, somehow relaxing in the frenzy), and met up with these guys,
plus Heather and new friends Olga and face-painted dude, for a fun, festive, electric night, even spotting the Roots getting out of their van from our not-quite backstage pass area and heading to the stage.
Phoenix got a touchdown tonight.
