Helicopter Mom
Guilty. I remember one year Shawn and I flew home for the holidays and during a layover in one of those middle of the country cities, my mother-in-law called. She tracked us down in pre-cell phone land the old fashioned way and apparently had most of the airport employees all riled up. By the time we heard our names on the loudspeaker and showed up at the appropriate desk, the guy looked surprised, then annoyed, and said, "Wow, you're grown up. I thought you would be more like eight years old." I vowed never to be a mom like that. Never get so worried like that. Stay calm. Raise an independent child and happily wave as she flies off into the world. But, instead, I'm freaking out. Don'tloseyourpassporthere'sthecabconfirmationnumberwhat'syournewfamily'saddress

Zoo Lights
Bright lights, big city! Fun night at the Zoo! Komodo Dragons, friends, beautiful night, had the whole zoo to ourselves then, in keeping with tradition, BBQ at Honey Bear's.

Peaches and Herb
Yummy, yummy Herb Box is now at Scottsdale Waterfront. Looks great in there. The place has Lipstick Call written all over it...

The Spanish-American War
If cute, spoiled blond chick shows up to Spain with three suitcases, I'm pretty sure we would set back Spanish-American relations by years. I said - be reasonable. Be a good representative. Maybe you don't need three pairs of boots. Maybe you don't need three pairs of boots and a sparkly shirt and one pair of leggings in your carry-on and that's all, while the rest of your closest is checked. What if those bags are lost? Maybe 18 packs of gum aren't necessary in your backpack. And how about the gallon of saline solution? And what about this Buzz Lightyear flashlight? I think they have streetlights in Spain. I made some headway, got her down to two bags, one backpack and a maybe on the sparkly shirt.
And now, back to Buzz.
And now, back to Buzz.

Let's get packin'
What do you pack for a seven month trip? Snow in Alcala? Museum in Madrid? Tapas in Barcelona? Dublin for St. Patrick's Day?
Any room for a kitty cat?
How about a mom?

Cleanup in the produce aisle
When I'm sad, I cry. When Shawn's sad, he cooks - what a pair. Standing in the produce aisle New Year's Day on our last big grocery trip before Shana leaves, I lost it. Sobbing all over the tomatoes. People staring. Shawn trying to help. We made it out of Fry's and Miss-late-night-slept-somewhere-I-hope-she's-safe-daughter eventually came home - glitter still on her face, smokey eyes and dangly earrings from what looks like a fun New Year's Eve and sat down for a last Saturday lunch at home for a long time. I tried to smile. I took a picture. The tomatoes were good.
